THE ANNIE NEWNHAM ART GALLERY - ENTRANCE

Annie Newnham NDD, MA (Dip RAS)

"Annie's work tosses questions from every canvas - which is great. It is this element of mystery that add further dimensions to her work, and compels you to look again" (Oxford Times, 15 Aug 2004)

On 5 October 2010 Ann died peacefully after a long illness and is now greatly missed by Richard and Alexander. A memorial service will be held on Saturday 13 November in Baptist Church, Lombard Street, Eynsham, at 11:30 am. No flowers; donations please to Marie Curie Cancer Care (0800 716146).

Annie Newnham (née Chiles) was a graduate of the Royal Academy Schools, London, where she won the 1st Armitage Prize with Silver Medal and the 2nd and 3rd Armitage Prizes with Bronze Medals. While studying at the RA, Annie was also awarded the David Murray Grant (twice), the Alma-Tadema Scholarship, and the Leverhulme Leaving Scholarship.

She has held various teaching posts in Art Schools, and taught life drawing and painting in Oxford, England.

Dr Christopher Brown, Director of Oxford's Ashmolean Museum, thanked her for three watercolours donated to an auction in aid of the Museum. The paintings celebrated women and wine, the auction taking place at a winelovers' dinner.

A selection of Annie's pictures, including some of the ones shown here, can be seen at The Fosse Gallery, Stow-on-the-Wold.
